There are days you wake up hating yourself for the way you look and on other days you might hate the world for being so hateful.
There are days when you feel like no one else will ever understand the battles you fight everyday.
Then there are days you stress – about love, about work, about life.
And ays you cry – because everything seems to be falling apart including your faith in yourself.
The world isn’t always perfect and neither are you. Everyone and everything seems to be out to get you; and you snap at anyone who says anything remotely cheerful!
On a day like this, what could make a BBW woman happy is simply listening to some music. Song lyrics, like poetry, have an amazing way of inspiring us without being preachy and just making you feel good again.
Sir Mixxalot’s ‘Baby Got Back’ seems to have become the anthem for BBW women everywhere and honestly, we’re a little sick of it! So these are some of our favorite BBW songs that you can listen to the next time you’re feeling down and out.
- Beautiful by Christina Aguilera

There are days of self-loathing we all go through and beautiful is a word we don’t associate with ourselves, especially because we have been told so often that with a plus sized figure, we couldn’t possibly be beautiful. Christina’s song insists “You’re beautiful no matter what they say” and sometimes a few simple words can make you feel beautiful again.
- Fat Bottomed Girls – Queen
One of the best bands of the 80s and one of the biggest rock stars of all time definitely knew what they were talking about when they sang “Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round!” And hey guess what, they don’t want the skinny chick; they want the fat bottomed girl to take them home!
- Video – India Arie

She’s singing about herself but she’s also singing about so many other girls:
“I’m not the average girl from your video
And I ain’t built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally,
Because I am a queen”
Talk about self-confidence! Feel like a queen and sing along with India: “I’m loving what I see” and love your body because you are a beautiful you.
- Prince Charming – Adam and the Ants
“Ridicule is nothing to be scared of” and though ‘Prince Charming’ isn’t particularly about BBW women, it is about the ridicule so many of us fear everyday. Loving yourself would be easier if people wouldn’t cruelly make fun of you but this song celebrates being different; and trying to conform to the standards of others is simply an attempt to “lower yourself”
- Girl for All Seasons – Northern State
Love yourself. That’s the bottom-line to this song. “Are my hips to big, does my ass look fat?” is what we all ask when we look at ourselves in the mirror but stop worrying ladies and start living! So “love your own reflection” because you can’t be true to yourself or to your man if you’re with him for all the wrong reasons.
- Keep on Livin’ – Le Tigre
Things will make you cry, and people will break your heart but “you gotta keep on (keep on livin’)” and not let anyone or anything bring you down. Come out from under your shell, and see the beauty in the world. You may have been hurt in the past but that is no reason to stop living because “they can’t tear you apart” if all you want to do is “keep on livin”!
- Listen – Beyonce

Don’t let anyone tell you to put your dreams away. This song from the movie ‘Dreamgirls’ is all about finding yourself again after someone else has convinced you your dreams are worthless and has reduced you to something you never wanted to be:
"I’m more than what, you made of me
I followed the voice
You gave to me
But now I gotta find my own…”
- When you Believe – Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston

This song is about faith. Many believe it is a song about believing in God but we like to think it’s about believing in yourself too. Faith in others is hard to come by but “you can do miracles when you believe” in yourself. You are wonderful the way you are, so believe in yourself and miracles won’t be that hard to believe in either.
- Beautiful – Joydrop
How many times have you looked at some girl and convinced yourself that your life would be so much easier if only you could be beautiful like her? Maybe it’s time you stop! Appreciate what you have because just being the girl everyone thinks is beautiful might not give you the perfect life.
“If I was beautiful like you I’d have so many friends
All fighting for my time to be next in line
So if I hurt one I wouldn’t have to make friends”
- Perfect 10 – Beautiful South
Didn’t think BBW admirers exist? This song is all about them. You’re rejected if you’re anorexic, and it’s worse if you’re a size 6. Love a woman who’s not afraid to be her size and loves her XXL man just the way he is, “cause we love our love, in different sizes”.
Did we miss any? What would your top 10 be? Please share any of your thoughts in the comments.

You did miss one - Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) by MIKA. A song 100% about BBWs and the video has BBWs too!
I totally agree! But where are these men who supposedly love us??
India Arie is inspirational. Maybe One Hot Mama by Trace Adkins could have been included too..
How about Fergie's song - 'big girls don't cry'???
so skinny is good great video

Here's a song you missed,Juvenile "back that thang, up"..he....chuckle..... sings praise, of "big fine women"
Musiq soul childs- "don't change" he's telling his childhood sweetheart, that bodies, change over time, but his love was the same, as it was when they first met. He tells her" I'll still love you, if your hair turns gray, girl, or if you put on weight, just as long as your love don't change" He tells her to forget about the women on t.v. or in magazines(the thin ones) he only has eyes for her.
