7 Most Expensive Luxury Items for Ladies

By Radhika | 17-Feb-09 in Lifestyle

Ladies spend way too much on luxury items they say. Have a look at this list. I think “expensive” now has a whole new meaning!

  • Women’s Shoes

are the Ruby Slippers from New York’s Harry Winston brand that cost US$3 million. They were designed by Ronald Winston to commemorate the ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ for the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the movie. The slippers have 4,600 rubies (1350 carats) and 50 carats of diamonds while the original just had sequins. Craftsman Javiar Barrera took two months to set the stones!

  • Underwear

is made by who else but Victoria’s Secret? It’s made of red satin and encrusted with 1300 precious stones and includes 300 carats worth of Thai rubies. The Red Hot Fantasy lingerie set was unveiled in 2002 at the opening of the brand’s Manhattan store and costs US$15 million!

  • Diamond Necklace

is Garrard’s Heart of Kingdom Ruby which is made of 155 carat worth of diamonds with a 40.63 carat Burmese ruby as the centre of attraction. It costs slightly less than the underwear at US$14 million.

  • Handbag

retails for US$37,000 and is an orange crocodile skin bag better known as the Hermes “Birkin”. However, one of the Birkin bags did sell for US$64,800 at a New York auction in 2005.

  • Sunglasses

used to cost US$3,800 before Dolce & Gabbana upped the stakes and the gold-framed, diamond-encrusted DG2027B is now the most expensive pair around priced at about US$383,609.

  • Lipstick

is actually more about its case rather than the lipstick itself. Guerlain’s KissKiss Gold and Diamonds costs US$62,000 because it comes in a solid 18-carat gold case encrusted with 199 diamonds. It’s refillable so you won’t have to throw it out when you run out of lipstick!

  • Box of Chocolates

is more like a trunk of chocolates! The Italian leather Chocolate Picnic Steamer Trunk from MarieBelle Chocolates, is a chocoholic’s dream come true with 500 pieces of chocolate ganache; four tins each containing 80 ounces of Aztec hot chocolate, 5 pounds of chocolate; one 20 ounce tin of Aztec Iced Chocolate; eight Aztec Hot Chocolate Bars, a tea set, a journal and mini library of books about chocolate. All this for US$15000!

US$15 million for underwear and US$15000 for chocolates?! It will take me a while to get over that one. But while I recover from my miniature cardiac arrest, do tell me what else I could add to this list of crazy expensive luxury items!
