Change We Need

You’re probably wondering what Barack Obama is doing on this blog because he has nothing to do with our plus size issues. Or maybe, if you think about it, he does.
America’s 44th President is all about change and the “change we need”
Never before have I seen such passion for an election. Never before have I seen such passion for an election in another country. Obama has promised to change America, but the world also seems to believe he is the change the world needs.
Growing up, even in the multicultural state of Hawaii, Barack Obama faced racial discrimination for being the son of a Kenyan immigrant. Convincing Americans to look beyond his color was definitely Obama’s biggest battle during his election campaign.
Some of us wallow within ourselves because being plus size, translates to being different from what is “normally” expected. Some of us hate being plus size because we have repeatedly been discriminated against and very cruelly too. Obama might not particularly be campaigning about plus size discrimination, but his stance on discrimination at work and gender discrimination creates hope for change.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
Obama’s government may or may not do a thing to change size-discrimination. Even if he does make any relevant changes, it will probably not have an effect on the rest of the world. But I do believe that Obama’s win creates hope for everyone who has ever been discriminated against. You might have to fight harder for what you want but Obama’s message is loud and clear – you have the power to change.
