Every woman has a body shape. Just because you’re a BBW doesn’t mean your body doesn’t have a shape. Most people simply assume that when you’re plus size, your body has absolutely no definition but don’t let them fool you!

You have to start by taking a good hard look at your body and noticing its features. Then read on to determine your body shape. Find out what shape you are so you can shop for better outfits that flatter your body.

I’m going to spread this over two posts or else it’ll become too long. For the first one, I’ll tell you about the different body shapes and let you figure out which one you are. In the second post, I’ll tell you how to dress best to flatter your body type, so don’t forget to check back!

  1. The Diamond
The Diamond body type has narrow shoulders. Most of the weight is concentrated around the midriff and the waist isn’t defined. You might have love handles too. The upper and lower bodies are considerably smaller than the middle region.

    The Plus –
If you’re diamond shaped, you probably have really great arms and your thighs aren’t too bad either.

  2. The Oval
The Oval figure is very similar to the Diamond, and both are often classified as the “Apple” body shape as the overall appearance is round. However, Oval figures usually have bigger busts as well as midriffs. The weight is concentrated on the entire upper torso. Oval bodies are usually larger around the lower stomach while diamond shapes have more weight around the upper region.

The Plus – Thin arms and legs, and hips that are not so heavy either.

  1. The Triangle

A Triangle shaped body is considerably narrower in the upper region with a smaller bust and a defined waistline. The weight is mainly concentrated in the lower body with heavy hips and thighs. You butt may or may not be rounded. When people say “pear shaped”, they are referring to a triangle body shape.

The Plus – You have narrow shoulders, slim arms and a defined waist.

  1. The Inverted Triangle
The Inverted Triangle is what we commonly describe as the “top-heavy” figure. Your bust is heavier than other parts of your body. You might also have a broad back and shoulders. In comparison, your waist and hips are narrower and have definition.

The Plus – Your assets are your waist and hips, and even your considerably flatter bum.

  1. The Rectangle
A Rectangular figure is box-shaped and the upper body has no definition at the waist as the figure is pretty much straight. The weight is spread over the entire upper body.

The Plus – You have a slender lower body with shapely legs and proportionate hips. Your arms are thin and your bust is either small or medium sized.

  1. The Hourglass

The Hourglass figure is described as the ideal figure for a woman. Models usually have hourglass figures with a full bust and full hips, and a clearly defined waist. However some can be slightly more top or bottom-heavy.

The Plus – Proportionate hip and waist curves, and well-shaped legs.

You’re not just fat, or plus size, or big or large or any of those adjectives without also being a diamond or triangle or rectangle or oval etc.
