A few more weeks and its going to be time to say goodbye to 2008! New year, new beginnings and a new you? This is the perfect time for a makeover and don’t worry, it’s not just all about buying new clothes! Sure “clothes make the (wo)man” and who wouldn’t love to buy a whole new wardrobe? But considering that most of us are pretty ordinary people, I doubt we could run out and change our wardrobe every few months.

So if you’re bored of your look, here are some tips for a makeover that won’t break the bank!

  • Wardrobe Must-Haves

Fashion is fickle but some things are fortunately timeless and will last you through every change in fashion. A pair of well-fitting jeans, a white shirt, black trousers, a black and a white singlet, a black dress, a pair of formal and casual shoes, good underwear (especially the perfect bra), a good jacket etc are some of the basics you should have. Investing in these essentials can get you through any fashion crisis.

  • Improvise & Accessorize

Instead of going into panic mode every time you look at your wardrobe, I would suggest you look at your wardrobe and see what you can do to make the most of it. For example, you could take up the hem on a skirt and make it shorter; or transform a pair of jeans by adding sequins, buttons, trimmings and borders etc.

If you’re not creatively inclined, just try new looks. If you like keeping your formals and casuals separate, try to mix and match. Layering works really well too, especially if you’re bored of wearing the same stuff over and over.

You can also accessorize and make your old look new. Wear your white shirt but try a big belt this time maybe? Or if you like jewelry, maybe you could brighten up the shirt with some gorgeous beads? Carry a bold bag or wear eye-catching shoes to bring your boring office outfit to life! Just get creative with your accessories and you could transform your look a great deal!

  • Get Gorgeous

Looking good isn’t just about what you wear! Star taking care of your health and body a little more and you’ll be turning heads wherever you go.

    • Get enough sleep.
    • Drink lots of water.
    • Exercise
    • Use a little makeup if you like
    • Adopt a healthy skin care routine
    • Get a new hairstyle

  • Attitude is Everything

Get a brand new attitude because maybe what’s getting you down is you! Clothes and makeup can make you look as good as new, but if you still feel negative or cranky about everything, it’s not going to help much. So give yourself an attitude-makeover to start with.

  • Wise Words of Wisdom

If you’re still lost and pretty much have no idea where to start then you need some serious counseling! Confide in someone who knows you really well, and ask them what they think you should change about yourself. Some of the most obvious things might not be so obvious until someone points them out to you.

See, it doesn’t always have to cost a fortune. I’ve promised myself a makeover this season. What about you?
