Many plus-sized women have said their biggest fear is often going to the gym and facing all those people who shouldn’t be there anyway! How are you supposed to work out while Mr. Chiseled Chest and Miss Fantastic Figure parade the gym? And they come in multiples!
Here are a few fitness activities that are better off than hitting the gym alone:
- Find a Workout Partner
There is always comfort in numbers so find a BBW partner and hit the gym together. That way you will have company while you work out and you can also motivate each other in your weak moments. Craigslist is a great way to look for partners in your area.
- Join a BBW Health Club
Join a health club for plus size women that so you can take heart in the knowledge that there are others who are trying just as hard as you. BBW magazine talks about the Woman of Substance health club in America. Maybe there’s something similar in your area?
- Hire a Personal Trainer
If you’re not confident working out with anyone else just yet, hire a personal trainer who will help you get started with your fitness regime, doing exercises at home without anyone else watching.
- Take Matters into Your Own Hands
Not comfortable going to the gym but can’t afford a personal trainer either? Don’t lose heart. You can always take care of your own fitness. Watch fitness shows, search the internet for tips, watch videos on YouTube and devise your own fitness regime.
- Walk It Off
Believe it or not, walking and running are highly underestimated fitness exercises. Head out for a walk every day, even if it’s a short one, and you will slowly be able to build the stamina for a jog and even a run. A little exercise every day goes a long way in maintaining a fit body.
- Swim
If you’re a water baby, jump into the pool. Swimming regularly is not only rejuvenating but fantastic exercise for a well-toned body.
- Take Classes
The treadmill and the rower might bore you to death and is probably why you don’t feel the need to work out at all. If that’s the case, do something you enjoy. Most health clubs these days offer a variety of classes to help women stay fit. You can choose from kickboxing, pilates, aerobics, tai chi and many more.
- Take Up a Sport
Playing a sport gives you all-round exercise so hitting a tennis court may be the perfect way for you to remain fit. Tennis, badminton, netball, volleyball, basketball, cricket, football, soccer…the list goes on and you can choose one that interests you.
- Go Dancing
Fitness isn’t meant to be a chore so you have to choose the regime that you enjoy most. Dancing is a fabulous way to have fun and stay fit at the same time. Search your local community for classes in a dance style that you like, or maybe just hit the clubs and get started. Go with a partner, or find a partner there…but make sure you have fun!
- Yoga
Yoga is a great way for anyone to get fit and work on their muscle flexibility. Take up Yoga to enjoy a relaxing and invigorating way to exercise your body.
